Ed Carne, Redruth development full-back, reports on the Sunday fixture between the old rivals, this the first Cornwall Supercup game of the new season and also a Tamar League fixture. Photos thanks Alan Nettle.
On a warm Octobers day at Redruth, the Reds youngsters will be unhappy not to have got more out of the game after spending a lot of time in the All Blacks 22 during the first half.
Launceston managed to score the first try through their left winger who finished a neat backs move out wide.
A few minutes later Reds scrum half, Nick Simmons, managed to put a lot of pressure on the back of the Launceston scrum. After some confusion between the Launceston 8 and the 9, Simmons managed to kick through and dive on the loose ball to score. Grant Thirlby added the extras.
Redruth then conceded a try through a driving maul.
Launceston took control during the second half scoring out wide again using their overlap and then securing the bonus point when a neat chip through by the blacks fly half was not dealt with the by the Reds back three and another try was conceded.
Redruth came back strongly in the closing minutes when a good drive of a lineout was brought down just short of the line and Reds replacement scrum half Jason Pengilly was driven over by the side of the ruck.
