Redruth U7&8's v St Austell

Redruth U7's 13-St Austell 0

Well done to the under 7's who continue their unbeaten run this season, with an excellent display against a young St Austell team. The REDS not only attacked well but defended superbly, not letting St Austell score a single try! Congratulation this week to Declan Allan for scoring his first try for Redruth and to Jordan Sidwell for scoring his 50th try this season. An excellent game boys, keep up the good work. Tries this week Thomas B, William (3), Jordan S (4), Aaron (2), Declan, Jordan O (2)

Redruth U8's 9 V St Austell U8's 12

Despite an overall high spirited match, the Reds narrowly failed to clinch victory over St Austell. Equally matched sides saw the score at 6-7 at half time. The second half saw some lovely team work with excellent support, however the boys energetic display was over powered by the St Austell and their Pocket Rocket who increased their number of tries greatly! Fantastic footwork by Matthew Simmons saw him romp in with 3 tries. Well fought boys, keep it up! Other try scorers this week - Liam (3), Jacca (2), Jack M.

Redruth 7&8's 5 V St Austell 7&8's 11

Our final match this week saw a disappointing defeat to a well drilled St Austell side. Redruth were encouraged by good runs from Bradley, Nile and Jay Jay. Improving team work was evident from the whole squad. Keep it up boys, practice at home to help continuing improvement. Try scorers Nile, Jay Jay, Jordan S (2), Jacca

See you all on Sunday for training Chris

U14's v St Austell

Redruth under 14s travelled to St Austell on a beautiful Sunday morning.

With a very depleted side, due to a lot of recent injuries, the Reds could only feild a 16 man squad.

The match started both teams looking quite strong it took a while for the Reds to settle but they eventually scored.St Austell came back strong and looked like they might score, but the Reds defence held and eventually the Reds broke back out of their half and scored again.

This seemed to be the turning point in the game, with the Redstaking control, the Saints looking occassionally dangerous.

Final score St Austell 0 / Redruth 41 an excellent Team performance.

Thank You to St Austell for a good match and superb hospitality. Simon Barbary

Under 11's Reports

Two match reports this week.

The first is from today’s game against the visiting St Austell.

St Austell are a well-drilled team with some big forwards and it was the visitors who took the lead with a well-worked try, which was converted. The Reds then had a period of play in the oppositions half, which allowed Aaron to break free to score. Harvey converted to level the scores.

St Austell then took the lead again with a clever break down the blindside, again the conversion was good. The Reds came back again and Big Harry B picked up a loose ball to score in the corner. This was Harry’s first try for the Reds. Harry C then converted.

Next on the score sheet was Kieren who made a scorching run from inside his own half to touch down. He then converted his own try. Harvey then scored the forth try of the game with a wonderful break through the middle, Kieren adding the extras. Aaron got his second try of the day and the conversion sailed between the uprights from the boot of Harry C.

Not content with scoring his first try for the Reds Big Harry B got his second and Redruth’s sixth try the conversion being kicked by Perran G.

This was an excellent game of rugby and St Austell were a very hard team to breakdown and score against. One defining moment was when Kieren looked to be scoring his second try with another run down the wing when the St Austell covering defender lined up his player and tackled him into touch.

Final score Redruth 42- 14 St Austell.

Last week the u11’s played at home to Truro.

The Reds first try came from Perran G after a big scrum from the Reds pack. Truro then equalised with a good drive from their pack with the conversion being good. The Reds were soon back in front with a well-taken try by Harvey. This was converted. Truro then levelled the score again before the Reds added a third try. Perran G scored this try and again the conversion was good. Harvey then got his second before Aaron and Harry C finished of the game with a try each. I can’t remember the scorers of the conversions because I lost my score sheet!!!!

Final score Redruth 40- 12 Truro.

A big thank you to both Truro and St Austell for two good games of rugby.

Many thanks. Chris Jose

U14's v Truro

Redruth U14s vs. Truro

Redruth 12, Truro 17 In a match that was probably going to be the hardest, in the county,in this age group, this season . Did not disappoint .

The Reds started off well and looked the more likely to score, but Truro defended well and kept the Reds from crossing the line. Then after a mistake by the Reds, not helped by the conditions, Truro broke through to score, they then became more confident especially when they scored again to lead 12/0 .

The Reds did not give up and now were now even more fired up, and fought back, and after some good moves managed to score. Now it was their turn to dominate again and soon leveled the score before half time.

The second half saw the battle continue but Truro managed to score a try part way through the half . The Reds tried their hardest to come back but just could not make it !.

Hope everybody is fit again soon ! after 3 boys had to go to casualty 1 from Truro and 2 from Redruth. ,p> Simon Barbary

Redruth U9's v Truro

Sunday, a cold wet morning saw Truro come to visit the "Rec" for the first time this season there was obvious tension in the air as both sides were as yet undefeated. Martyn, Deano, George and myself set about to get the boys warmed up for the game, they practiced their passing skills then moved onto the tackle bags. By the time of the game they were fired up and ready to go.

Match 1:- The whistle blew and the lads came out flying, both sides defending their lines well. Finally the Reds broke through and scored the first try. It was end to end entertainment neither side giving in or making any mistakes by half time the score was 2-2.

Second half was just a tight until Conner Gilbert scored an excellent try which was the pivotal point in the game, with fantastic team work and sheer determination we managed to extend the lead to leave the score at the final whistle as 5-3 to the Reds.

A very emotional Truro side left the field to the applause from both sets of parents and should be said that they are a fantastic side. The Reds basked in the moment and the picture below shows how pleased they were.

Squad: Bradley, Ciaran, Conner G, Dominic (Capt), Harry, Henry, Jack H, Jack M, Luke, Ollie, Robbie, Ryan, Sam R.

Tries: Conner G (3) , Dominic (1), Sam R (1)

Man of the Match: Conner Gilbert for good team play, excellent defending and an excellent Try which he created by ripping the ball away from the opposition and running almost the full length of the field.

Match 2:- As the Truro squad was a fair size we agreed to a second game to ensure all players had a good run out. We started again as we meant to go on, strong and determined. The Truro players again to their credit defended well but we were again too strong. Again with good teamwork and support we came out victorious and at the death when we were at the Truro line rucking the ball it was Jack H that took the initiative to pick the ball up and leap like a salmon over both teams to score the final points, with the score ending 6-2 to the Reds.

Squad: Bradley, Ciaran, Conner G, Dominic (Capt), Harry, Henry, Jack H, Jack M, Luke, Ollie, Robbie, Ryan, Sam R

Tries: Ciaran (1), Dominic (3), Jack H (1), Sam R (1)

Man of the Match: Ciaran Hicks for sheer determination and dogged brute force, essential work in the rucks and mauls and to cap it all a fantastic Try.

Summary: Every single player on the field was a contender for the MOM award, they all had their good and bad moments, mostly the moments were good and Ollie, Harry and Bradley were particularly happy at beating their school mates A big well done to all. In addition all the parents, coaches and players wish a speedy recovery to the 2 players injured in Sundays games, Jason Jackson for the U15's and Chris Beech for the U14's.

Redruth U13's v Truro

Truro 7 Redruth 7

Redruth played their most competitive match of the season on Sunday against a Truro team full of players from Truro and Penair School, who had both comfortably beaten the Reds school team.

The game was fiercely competitive and both teams showed great skill levels.

Redruth had the edge in the scrums and lineouts , but the open play was even. Truro scoring the first try after some good running and passing. Redruth hit back just before half time with a try by Steve Trenoweth, converted by Ollie Bryant to make it 7-7.

The second half was an even affair with chances for both sides, and a good test for the Reds defence.

We are home to St Austell next week.

On a wet and blustery november morning the reds lined up for there hardest game this season against a well drilled Truro side.

From the kick off it was taken well by truro running straight at the Reds. The Reds defencive play was very important today there tackles were made. Truro spent most of the half in the Reds end, but a solid defence kept them out.

In the second half the Reds kicked off and kept the preasure on Truro to keep them pinned in their own half for a while. Truro broke through only to be stopped by a good covering tackle by Jack and Jordan. Truro stayed in the Reds half until the final whistle it was a hard physical game and both teams enjoyed it.
