The Colts first warm up game of the season saw a well-drilled and very competent Wellington College win by 26-5, with the home side's sole score a second half try from Ashley Hoskin.
Whilst the first half saw almost total territory and possession from the visitors, this was Redruth's first game of the season. Selecting a mix of 17s and 18s, and with a squad of 26 all used, Redruth found some shape and direction in the second period and deserved more than the scoreline suggested.
More from Jim Trinder to come.

The new season beckons. The Colts have already done 17 pre-season sessions, and the squad will be working hard to emulate last seasons successes.
Our targets are always to take part and win all three of the local competitions, whilst enjoying the excitement and different challenges of the National Colts Cup.
Again, we have a large squad but the demands of school and college rugby limits the availability of some of the players. Nevertheless, the coaches are reporting a positive response in training and we look forward to another successful season and again we will see some of the future stars of the first team.
Above, a squad photo of the Colts taken on Monday, August 13th
We have had a couple of changes to the coaching team for this season. We said goodbye to Ralph Tregonning, who has coached the colts forwards for the last 15years and who is taking a well deserved rest this season. ( But I am sure Redruth Colts haven't seen the last of Ralph....)
A welcome back however to Nathan Pryor, part of a great coaching dynasty who has join the set up that his father had so much success with for many years.
Next weekend, the climax of the Colts pre-season takes place: the pre-season Training camp ! Our thanks to Roger and Sarah Pryor for the use of their land.
The highpoint of next weekend Rugby wise will be the Colts first game. On Sunday 26th Wellington College from Berkshire are our visitors, a top rugby playing school, play us as part of their pre-season tour.
On Friday and Saturday 31st August / 1st Sept the Colts are taking part in the Truro College Festival of rugby, a warm up for the season ahead. Also on the Saturday a home fixture with Exeter kick off 2.30pm.
A couple of fund raising events have been arranged for early in the season - A Colts Fun Day to help the Mini Juniors on Sunday 9th September, from 12 till 3pm - fun for all the family, see separate posters etc for details.
A Charity Harvest Auction, with funds going to the Colts and The Wooden Spoon Society, will be held at the Club on Sunday October 21st 8pm - All donations welcome contact Simon Major 01872 54060.

The Club has been buzzinh with pre-season training over the past 2 weeks, and whilst Simon Blake and Chris Allen have been putting the new 17s, 18s and 19s through their paces, some of last years youngsters have stepped up for training with the Senior squad.
They have joined the others in training at Redruth School and on local beaches, the latter conveniently not so busy as the rain continues to pour.
Pictured above are Mark Phillips, Ben Fox, Nick Simmons, Coach Nigel Hambly, Matt Bowden, William Clift, Russell May and Adam Hosking.

What a week it's been for the Colts, starting with the highs and lows of Monday at Northampton to the fun and games of the Presentations and Awards at the Club on Thursday.

Head Coach Nigel Hambly and Club President Derek Collins were on hand to announce and present the trophies.
As Nigel commented, it wasn't so much about the result on Monday as getting there, a massive achievemnt in itself. Bedford proved a hurdle too far, but the experience gained at a magnificent stadium against a very good and big team will prove invaluable.
Nigel added that for the under-19s now stepping up to the Senior squad can look to Paul Teixeira, Ben Fox and Dan Job, who all made the First Team squad this year and can join in what could be a very exciting season next year.
Thanks were made in particular to all Mums and Dads and Sponsors - without you, where would we be ??? !!!
The main awards were presented to:
U17 Player of the year - Jack Williams
U18 Player of the year - Nick Simmons
U19 Player of the year - Ben Taberer
Colts Clubman of the year - Captain Scott Jenkin
Players Player of the season - Ben Fox

Colt of the year - Josh Morgan
Colts " Magic Moment " award - Adam 'The Boss Man' Hosking.
Thanks to everyone who packed the Clubhouse, and a reminder it's the Club AGM next Thursday.

Redruth paid dearly for missing their chances as Bedford Blues won the National Colts cup at Franklin’s Gardens, home of Northampton Saints on Bank Holiday Monday.
The clinical finishing of a talented & well drilled Bedford team brought them victory by 5 tries to 1, a scoreline that was very hard on the Redruth lads who gave their all and dominated most of the second half with little reward.
Redruth Colts Head coach Simon Blake reflected on the game “You could not have asked the boys to do any more. The commitment, effort and application was exemplary”.
“Top class Rugby is about taking your chances, Bedford had the extra bit of class that made the difference. The score on half time was a killer for us”
“We threw everything at them in the second half but we lacked a bit of composure and polish, we came back to 18-5, we were close on a number of occasions but just could not get over the try line”.
After earlier showers conditions at one of the best Rugby stadiums in the country were excellent, Redruth were well supported in the Tetley stand in a match watched by a crowd of 800 or so with many Bedford followers also making the short trip to Northampton.
Bedford kicked off and immediately put Redruth under pressure but left wing Scott Murray was close to a score in the 4th minute chasing down a probing kick by reds scrum half Nick Simmons.
Bedford took the lead with a snap drop goal by centre Grant Pointer in the 10th minute. International lock Courtney Lawes galloped through the reds defence to touch down an unconverted try a few minutes later.
With Paul Teixeira making a couple of good runs Redruth had Bedford under pressure for a while with Forwards Ben Fox and Ben Greening close to scores.
Skipper Tom Williams touched down in the left hand corner after 30 minutes and scrum half Will Chudley touched down a good individual try on the stroke of half time as the reds went into the break trailing by 18 points.
The Reds forwarded dominated a long period in the second half lock Josh Morgan went over for a try 11 minutes into the second half but was forced to leave the field with an injured shoulder soon after.
The free running Bedford backs ran in late tries by winger Duncan Taylor and replacement Matthew Watkins converted by Pointer.

In a first for Cornish Colts Rugby, Redruth have achieved the clean sweep in all age groups, beating Launceston 16-0 on Saturday in the County Final at Polson Bridge.
The Colts added to the trophy haul of county competitions this year by winning the under 19 merit table final, thereby enabling the club to boast county cup winners from under 15 at every age right through to seniors - a tremendous and unique achievement.
Saturdays result was revenge for a narrow defeat in the corosponding final last season when the home side sneaked a slender win.
After an opening penalty score by flyhalf Adam Hosking Redruth were rarely tested by the home side. On the 30 minutes mark Redruth extended their lead with another penalty by Hosking. Just before the break a penalty kick for the Reds given by the touch judge was overuled by the referee - giving the Reds just a six point lead at the break.
Redruth swapped fly half Adam Hosking for Brett Rule after the break, but the result was the same as Rule converted a third penalty on 50 minutes. With centre Paul Teixeira and flanker Ben Fox leading the way, a try from the latter converted by Rule midway through the half heralded mass substitutions by Redruth as they rested players for next weeks national cup final.
Even with the changes the Reds continued to press but could not add to the score.
Redruth scorers - Try: Ben Fox, 2 pens: Adam Hosking, Pen & Conv: Brett Rule.
Nevertheless, this was a fine result for the whole squad giving momentum for the challenge to come.
The Cup Final is at the magnificent Franklin Gardens, home of Northampton, next Monday at 3pm. A supporters coach has been arranged to include an overnight stay on Sunday at the team hotel, contact Bert Viner on 01209 210651 or Alan Pedley on 01209 211975. The coach leaves Redruth at 1.30pm on Sunday, returning after the game.

We are a very lucky club at the moment, with every week bringing a Cup Final. Yesterday it was the turn of the Under 18 Colts to bring home the cup, this cup being the 'main colts cup in the County', the cup that Redruth colts have won on eighteen previous occasions including seven out of the last nine years now eight in ten years.
The boys delivered the greatly sought after result.
There is no doubt that at the start of the season that this was always the colts number one priority - so a fantastic job done by Under 18s captain Nick Simmons and the rest of the squad. (See separate report by David Thomas with photos).
The team of course celebrated into the night with ice cream at Simons house !!!
There is training again tonight, with the U19 Cornwall Merit Table final on Saturday 3pm against Launceston at Polson Bridge. A win at Launceston would give the Reds all the county cups from Under 15s to the senior Cornwall cup. No pressure then boys!!!
The preparations for the national cup final are underway. We have booked a hotel and coach, we will be staying at the Holiday Inn Express M1 Junction 15 01604 432800.
If any supporters want to book, please note we will be staying on both Sunday and Monday nights.
We should be able to tell you about a supporters coach later this week, hopefully tomorrow!
Just one more thing - the Club have granted the Colts a collection on Saturday. So please give generously.
