Redruth U10′s News

Posted under Mini-Junior Policies,Uncategorized,Under 10's by Chris Sidwell on Tuesday 14 September 2010 at 11:08 am

Well done to all the U10′s who have attended our pre-season training sessions, the turnout has been great and we now have a squad of 19 players.

For those of you who don’t know, we will be down at Hayle RFC on Friday 24th Sept. for a training session and training game. This will be a useful way of getting to grips with this years new laws, please try to be there at 5.45pm.

Our first proper fixture of the season, the Clifton Festival, will soon be upon us, and with the following teams competing it should prove to be an exciting day. Barnstaple, Bath, Cheltenham, Chippenham, Cleve, Clifton, Hucclecote, Keynsham, Mumbles, Rhiwbina and St.Mary’s.

Here is the Redruth squad: Toby, Luke, Thomas, Cameron, Aaron, William K, Lewis, Declan, Patrick, James, Jordan O, Jordan S, Jack and Charlie.

Chris Allan will be with us on Friday to cast his experienced eye over our scrummaging techniques, so please make sure you attend if you can.

Well done everyone and thank-you for all you continued support.

Chris.

Redruth Colts v Truro Colts 14-15

Posted under Colts,Colts News,Headlines by Stuart Morrison on Sunday 12 September 2010 at 8:52 am

On Sat 11th Spetember Redruth Colts  met up with Truro Colts at the Rec, the boys played well in the first half but found themselves trailing. Into the second half Redruth came back at Truro with a fantastic debut Try from Willser. Despite good pressure from the Reds and a few last minute chances for points they narrowly lost 14-15.

A great game overall and certainly one that they will be able to take alot of positives from and hopefully be able to come out stronger next time.

Redruth 15 Wharfedale 16

Posted under Headlines,Match Reports by admin on Sunday 5 September 2010 at 1:11 am

Match report by Roger Watson

Despite leading for much of the match Redruth let this game slip away to give the Dalesmen their third successive win at The Recreation Ground. The Reds will rue conceding penalties when in scoring positions and taking too many wrong options to finish off scoring opportunities.

Merry supporters on the verandah of the new Frame UK Hospitality Suite

In front of a good crowd including those who had been privileged to enjoy the opening of the splendid new Frame UK Hospitality Suite and were watching from the verandah, a jittery start was made by both sides. Redruth were first off the mark when Paul Thirlby made a decisive break for the pack to recycle and Steve Kenward to score in the corner. Aaron Penberthy converted from the touchline.

Wharfedale were quick to respond, winning a penalty from a good attack to give Thomas Davidson the opportunity to add three simple points. The rest of the half was a tense affair with Tongan international Talite Vaioleti making a huge impact for the visitors while Mark Bright impressed as usual for Redruth. The Reds set up a number of good scoring opportunities but were unable to convert them into points.

The last action of the half saw Wharfedale go through a dozen or more phases before the inevitable penalty came to narrow the gap to a single point at the interval.

Penberthy and Davidson exchanged penalties at the start of the second period. The hosts started to take control and a good spell of rugby saw Penberthy held up over the line. Two five metre scrums followed before Bright drove over for an unconverted try.

One more score for The Reds would probably have seen them home but with just a few minutes to go they lost a defensive lineout to give Andrew Hodgson the opportunity to take a fine running angle and touch down under the posts for Davidson to add the extras.

Penberthy had a couple of long range penalty chances to win the game but went wide leaving The Reds to rue not finishing off the chances they created.

Redruth’s Director of Rugby, David Penberthy, agreed that his team had given the game away.

We have to be more patient, go through the phases and improve our finishing but this is a young, talented and enthusiastic squad and I have every confidence in them.
