Colts latest

The Colts are now well into the pre-season training schedule and as you can see from some of the pictures on the site, Simon and Chris are showing their usual enthusiasm for the Job.

Colts individual photos will be uploaded at the weekend.

We welcome some old faces to the Colts management this season. The return of David Tresidder as assistant team manager. Mark Bryant, whose presence is always welcome. Mark is heavily involved in the organising of the Colts pre-season Camp. (Thanks to the family Nankervis from Nancledra for the use of their farm and to our Sponsors South West Loos for facilities).

Other additions to the backroom team Simon Lewarne who spent several years as chairman of the mini junior section and whose son Adam is Captain of the Under 18 Colts.

The great Paul Hancock will be handling the physio and injury treatment this season.

The coaching team lead by Simon Blake with Chris Allan, Chris Sidwell, Nathan Pryor and Glynn Williams along with the help of Nigel and the senior coaches.

All this and the stalwarts, Chairman Alan Pedley, John Seymour & Brian Mankee. I think this year will be the strongest the Colts set up has been in my time involved.

Fund Raising and sponsorship for the Colts remains a priority.

Simon Major from our committee is organising an Evening of Comedy and Cabaret at the club on Saturday September 13th. Tickets are available from the Club or any Colts committee member will be pleased to help.

Below is a timetable for our August events please feel free to come along and watch.

Saturday 2nd August – 10.30 till 12.30. A session with Brian Moore ex England a British Lion Hooker.

8th/10th August pre-season training camp.

Thursday 14th August – beach Training Gwithian 6pm

Friday 22nd August – training match with Truro College at the College 6.30 Kick off.

Thursday 28th August Beach Training at Gwithian 6pm

Saturday 30th Aug – Training match opposition tbc.

And finally – if Phil Myers is reading this – can you please contact me on my mobile. I would like to take you up on your offer we spoke about earlier in the summer. My mobile is 07773 368704.

Update 23rd July

Posted under Director's Commentary by admin on Wednesday 23 July 2008 at 12:00 am

What a hectic week….to say the least!!! …. what did I say last week …”something would have to give for me to be able to continue” ……

Firstly, I am delighted that Eric Nicholls at Spiral is going to continue sponsoring my column on the website. It’s great to have such generous and committed people supporting the reds and looking at all opportunities to support the club. I hope others consider follow Eric’s example and look at all the opportunities the club have put together.

Eric also advertises in the match day programme, which will this season be given to everyone as part of their admission and membership. Spaces are avaialble so please contact us if YOU would like to be in next season’s match day programme, which will have a totally new look and feel.

Well it’s been a week of major decisions for me …. I must be honest, at the time of writing last week I knew that a decision had to be made to replace Ron Spencer as Chairman of the club’s Executive committee, what I didn’t know was that I would be writing this column this week as the new chairman! It was a big decision for me to make and one that I took 72 hours to mull over. However, I believe it is now time to move forward and consider this as the beginning of a new era.

Ron did a great job over the years and the club are very grateful for that, I do not see my role as being a “clone” of the role that he carried out. The club have some very good and active people heading up and being part of the various committee’s, I would hope they would all take a little extra responsibility and give that little bit more to make sure we are able to compete at the highest level possible. It’s going to be tough, and I am the first to hold my hand up there, but I want to remain very positive and would hope everyone around me does as well ….

Some have said it will be impossible to carry out the two roles, Chairman and Director of Rugby, believe me this was a major consideration that I had to take into account when I made my decision … but there are some really good people on board now and I have a great deal of help being afforded by those people so that side of it is not an issue …. there will be times when decisions will have to be made about rugby and those are the situations that will be interesting …. but if decisions have to be made that are tough then that is what is going to have to happen. I really want to continue in my rugby role as it is one I enjoy immensely .. it has been an exhilarating experience over the past 6 seasons and I want it to continue that way ……

I saw the Cornish All Blacks squad photo in the Independent on Sunday and what an impressive group they have put together. I take my hat off to those involved, they have obviously worked incredibly hard to obtain business partners who are supporting the players they have retained and signed …. I am sure they will be in the mix at the end of the season, obviously Pertemps Bees and Cambridge may have something to say about that …. The All Blacks latest signing, Tim Collier, is a giant of a bloke. I met him at a disciplinary meeting in Bristol last season and he came across as a very nice guy … but that was off the field!! Our first meeting is at Redruth on October 4th and what a bumper crowd is in store ….

Our squad is settling down nicely and I am really pleased at the attitude and endeavour being shown. Our commitment to continue to encourage or young players to succeed is bearing fruit and players like Brett Rule and Nick Simmons, along with Ben Fox, are training really hard and will no doubt figure in the 1st team squad during the season.

I have said over the past few weeks about the Aussies and whether or not they were capable of being a driving force again …. well they beat the Boks on Saturday and achieved their 5th successive win under the control of Kiwi Robbie Deans …. their next test will be against New Zealand so they are sure to be in for a torrid challenge there. South Africa don’t seem to be able to string two good performances together at the moment …. this disappointment following hot on the heels of a great victory over the All Blacks….. The Lions will be watching with interest!

The Brian Moore evening is getting closer – next friday 1st August -and there are still a few tables left to sell …. it will be a great night. Brian is hugely entertaining, and some of the proceeds are going towards the Precious Lives Appeal. Tickets are priced at
