COLTS UPDATE Jim Trinder Monday February 26th 2007

Posted under Colts News by admin on Tuesday 27 February 2007 at 12:00 am

Unfortunately a blank weekend for the colts the weather playing havoc with the fixtures. Our Cornwall cup game away to Falmouth on Friday evening suffered and is hopefully going to be played this Thursday evening 7.30 kick off at Falmouth. Saturdays fixture at Bath was cancelled on Saturday morning just as our bus was pulling into Cullompton services.

Waterlogged pitch….A bit of a trip for a coffee and bacon roll !!!!!

This week sees our under 19 national cup tie at Amersham and Chiltern. If we manage to get a result there, the Quarter final is away to Dinnington in Yorkshire.

Anyway here’s hoping for a good weekend weather wise !!!

UNDER 7&8′S ON THE FARM?

Posted under Under 8's by admin on Monday 26 February 2007 at 12:00 am

Under 7′s & 8′s

Owing to the appaling state of the training areas at the Recreation ground we took a decision to train down at Rogers farm. Initially we thought about getting the players to pick broccoli and spuds, but decided instead to make use of the vast space and mark out a ‘rather large’ training pitch.

After a few training drills we split into two teams and played a training match. On the whole everyone performed well – athough I wasn’t sure how to referee the occaisional stray sheep.

Thanks to Roger for providing our most ‘rural’ setting – ahhhhhh! the smell of the country – and thanks to all of the parents whose continuous support make everything happen. Next week we HOPE to be training back at Redruth.
Watch this space…….

SATURDAY MARCH 3rd

The SAMURAIS are playing Truro Mini Dragons at half time. Please meet at the main gate at 2.30 in your match kit, and training jackets. See you there.

Under 13′s v Pirates

Posted under Under 13's by admin on Friday 23 February 2007 at 12:00 am

oh ,yes ! a dry Sunday morning, with a well deminished squad due to holidays and injuries.

The Reds were home to Penzance, who started very strong and held the Reds for a good 15 minutes or so, until the Reds eventually managed their way through to start the scoring.

Steadily the Reds got on top of the Pirates, but they had to work hard for it, making it a much more interesting game.

The Reds keeping another clean sheet, final score 29/0 Thank you to the Pirates, Kevin the Ref, and new linesman Chris.

find myself starting off by saying a big thank you again to Wharfedale for such a great welcome and for looking after us so well. It is, without any shadow of doubt, the best club we visit, and the supporters are truly great fun! The banter that I have with a group is classic and I am hopeful that they come to Redruth next year. There are great similarities with the clubs, especially the fervent support that the team gets. I hope the rest of the season goes well for them and I know we all look forward to making the trip there next year and welcoming them to Redruth.

Well, what can I say about Tony Wickett and his “Dirty Dozen”!! It was great, from our perspective, to see some familiar faces when we arrived at Wharfedale, but I didn’t expect to see Flacky supporting a “shiner”

Well done on the photo’s Daniel, can we also have some reports from the U13′s please.

Under 11′s v St Ives

Posted under Under 11's by admin on Tuesday 20 February 2007 at 12:00 am

St. Ives 0 Redruth 35.

A really good team effort was the story of this victory against a newly formed St. Ives team who tackled well throughout and kept going with very little ball such was the Reds dominance.

The pack were in great form in the scrums generally taking the ball against the head, although the line out was an area where St. Ives had the edge. The packs kept their shape in attack and defence this week and there was some good interplay between all the players at times.

Our tries were scored by Will Whitworth, Jack Simmons and Brian Gillman but this week most of the other players were actually in support of the ball carriers when they scored and several of the lads tried their luck at conversions.

One of the best performances of the Season, let’s hope they haven’t peaked too soon!

Also can you amend last weeks try scorers to read Brian Gillman-Hill not Martin who is his Dad and is definitely too old!

Cheers,
Stewart.

Editors Note:- it’s great to see that youth rugby has fired up again in StIves. Once a hot bed of rugby over the past few years the sport in this Cornish seaside town seem to have given way to surfing. I am sure that the success of youngsters such as Jimmy Stevens with the England team have helped this most famous of clubs get youth back through their doors, long may it continue.
