Managers comments – Redruth v Reading

A good win on Saturday but at what a cost! Mark Scrivener ruled out for the rest of the season, Sam Harrison likely to pick up a long ban and James Lancaster’s last but one game for the Reds. Its not a great situation to be in but one we have to overcome. The spirit and the will to win is second to none and I am sure that whatever happens and whoever arrives at the Recreation Ground over the next few weeks will only aid our push for promotion. We have a great squad of young players who have developed into fine rugby players. Saturday’s second half performance was a fitting send off for James. I was lucky that I was not present at the half time team talk as I was on the field sorting Scriv’s situation, but by all accounts a few choice words were muttered by Nigel but what an effect it had. My hope is that we can take this sort of performance to Dings this weekend. Its not going to be easy there as they have had a good start, we came unstuck there last year and we will have to work hard to come away with a positive result this time out. as for Scriv’s..well he’s had an op and hopes to be out of hospital by Friday. Its a great shame this has happened as he is one of the most likeable people you could wish to meet and is 100% commited to Redruth. I am sure you will all wish him well…

See you soon…..

REDRUTH UNDER 14′s VERSUS PENRYN

Posted under Under 14's by admin on Tuesday 19 October 2004 at 12:00 am

Penryn brought the game right to Redruths front door in poor conditions at the Rec. It took Redruth 10 minutes to settle into this fixture. Against the run of play Daniel Dunstan intercepted a Penryn loose pass to score under the posts from his own half. Richard Kevern converted. Further first half tries from Sam Newman (2) Dunstan and Tom Peakman saw the Reds restore some order after a shaky start.

REDRUTH UNDER 13′s VERSUS PENRYN

Redruth travelled down to Penryn looking to defend their 100% start to the season. Reds played into the wind in the first half and possession moved evenly between the two teams for the first 10 minutes. Redruth soon moved into the Penryn 22 and scored 2 quick tries through Ben Drew and Dean Bonds. Kieran Thomas added one conversion. As the half went on Reds pack started to dominate the scrum but Penryn responded with some good kicks from hand and scored a try just before the break making the half time score 12

Managers comments – Redruth v Waterloo

Posted under Match Reports by admin on Monday 18 October 2004 at 12:00 am

Saturday’s game against Waterloo was a very physical affair, but it
was a game where we competed well in all phases. It was a good
benchmark for us to see what the standard is like in National 2 and give us an indication
of what we have to do should we progress next season. I suppose it is
fair to say that we had our chances and if our execution was better we
could of put
yourselves in a winning position. However, now knowing that our 4th
round game would of been at Kendal up in Cumbria it’s probably just as
well we went out at this stage. We did pick up a few injuries but
hopefully
everyone
will be alright for this weekend’s important league match against
Reading
at home. This game also marks James Lancaster’s last home match for the
Reds. James is moving back to London and his contribution to our cause
will be greatly missed. He has been an inspiration whilst here and I
would like to take this opportunity to wish him all the very best for
the future and say that it has been a pleasure working alongside him
over the past couple of years. I know there is a bus organised for
next weekends trip to Dings, please consider going if you are not
already doing so…we need your
support
and it gives you a chance to give “Chopper” the send off he
deserves…

REDRUTH UNDER 10′s VERSUS FALMOUTH

Falmouth 30 Redruth 35

The Red’s under 10′s won their second game this season with a hard fought but thoroughly deserved victory against a good Falmouth side. Kieran Young opened the scoring for the Reds, Falmouth equalised before Kieran broke from a maul for his second try. From the kick off Falmouth’s big forward crashed straight through the Reds defence to make it 10 -10, good handling and passing gave Steve Trenoweth a clear run to put the Reds back info front only for Falmouth to come straight back with the same move as before, playing with confidence the Reds hit back again and Kieran got his third try to make the halftime score 20 – 15.

The second half got underway with a good solo run by James Trewen who showed what he can do when he puts his mind to it. The Reds put together some excellent passing moves and two quick try’s by Dirk Moodie and a second by Steve Trenoweth made the score 35 – 15 at this point a big win looked on, but Falmouth got second win and pulled three try’s back to set up a nail biting finish.

In the final minutes Falmouth pressed for an equaliser but the Red’s defence held firm thanks to some excellent tackling by Summer Kershaw in particular. Both sides played with good sportsmanship and if we can concentrate for a full 30 minutes we should be a force to be reckoned with this year

Redruth 8 Waterloo 20

Posted under Match Reports by admin on Sunday 17 October 2004 at 12:00 am

Waterloo had use of the wind and slope in the first half and had twelve points on the board within ten minutes. Tries for Sean Casey and Freeman Payne with one conversion by Neil Hunter. The Redruth defence tightened up after this and for the last ten minutes of the half put pressure on Waterloo but could only come away with one penalty by Mark Scrivener. Giving a half-time score of Redruth 3 Waterloo 12.

Redruth opened the second half well when Richard Carroll was driven over by the pack. Unfortunately Waterloo hit back and despite fighting against a period of strong wind and heavy rain increased their lead with a penalty by Neil Hunter. Redruth couldn
