Redruth 17 Weston-super-Mare 21

A powerful performance from the Weston side gave them revenge for the defeat in the cup earlier in the season. Redruth opened the scoring with a penalty by Scott Martin. James Lancaster was yellow carded after ten minutes and Redruth did well to hold Weston to a try by Andy Glen driven over from a lineout. Scott Martin for Redruth and Martin Lambourne of Weston added a couple of penalties each before an attacking move by Redruth into the Weston half resulted in turnover ball and Weston broke out of defence, after good inter passing John Edwards scored a try in the quarry corner Lambourne adding an excellent conversion. Scott Martin added another penalty before half-time to bring the score to Redruth 12 Weston 18.

Redruth looked a better side in the second half but were unable to turn pressure into points until Lee Curnow scored a well taken try in the scoreboard corner ten minutes from time. Redruth tried to get a winning score and put together some good passages of play but it was Weston who had the final word with another Lambourne penalty on the whistle.

Mark Richards was presented with the Reds

Redruth Under 13′s 44 Penryn 7

Coach Nigel Thomas gave all his squad a run out in this fixture and even lent Penryn a player as the were one short. Redruth were less than impressive in the first half with tries from Ryan Thomas and Tom Simmons. Stern words from the coaches saw a different Redruth in the second half. They moved the ball wide after setting the platform with the forwards. Second half tries came from Ryan Thomas, Daniel Dunstan (2), Tom Simmons, Tom Barr and Adam Lewarne, Richard Kevern converted 2. Penryn played to the best of their ability and were richly reward a converted try in the second half to make the final score, Redruth 44 Penryn 7.

REDRUTH UNDER 13′s WIN A THREE HEADER AT CAMBORNE

Posted under Under 13's by admin on Sunday 12 October 2003 at 12:00 am

Redruth Camborne and Barnstable take part in a three way competition at
Cambornes Crane Park.

Camborne opened the three header with touring guests Barnstable. After a
slow start Barnstable opened the score with a converted try. Camborne hit
back through Bennets Matavasi converting. After the half time break
Barnstable again took charge with an unconverted try to led 12-7. Camborne
stepped up a gear with the ever present Matavasi converting his own try to
put the cherry and whites in front. Camborne wrapped up the match with two
late tries from Michael Kelly.

Game 2 saw Redruth take on Barnstable.
Looking impressive from the off Redruth soon had points on the board with a
try from Sam Newman, converted by Richard Kevern. Redruth continued to pile
on the pressure toward the Barnstable line, setting up excellent ball with
the forward and releasing their backs at every occasion. Tries from Jack
Dixon and Jack Greenaway saw the half time score reach 17-0. Redruth’s pack
continued to dominate good forward play from Aaron Hancock and Dominic Olds
saw captain Tom Simmons go over, Kevern converting. Redruth made changes to
their line up and new boy Tom Peterman added 2 tries. Powerhouse forward
Jack Greening adding to the points tally for a final score of 37-0.

The last match saw Redruth against old rivals Camborne. Camborne made some changes to the line up that faced Barnstable and looked hungry for the game, but the Reds struck an early blow with the ever impressive Daniel Dunstan being
released up the left wing. Redruths tactics of releasing the backs proved
successful again when 9 minutes later Jack Dixon touched down to make the
score 10-0. Just before half time the forwards got into the act with
wonderful rolling play resulting in Tom Simmons touching down in the corner.
Camborne had little to offer in the second half, Simmons again touching down
two further tries, converting one himself to make the final score Redruth 27
Camborne 0.

Redruth’s next match is against Penryn next Sunday.

Redruth 15 Old Colfeians 8

Posted under Match Reports by admin on Sunday 12 October 2003 at 12:00 am

Following two very close matches last season between these sides, Redruth edged out the winners at home, this time, after another hard-fought match. The Reds had the use of the slope in the first half but Old Colfeians started strongly and looked to have the upper hand in the forwards and were rewarded with a try by Pete Burton after eighteen minutes. The goalkickers for both sides were having an off day and Townsend missed three penalties and the conversion in the first half for Old Colfeians, Bede Brown missing one penalty attempt for the Reds but made up for this in his all-round play. As the first half progressed the Reds became stronger and were unlucky not to score through Lewis Vinnecombe and again after a splendid break by Bede Brown the pass failing to go to hand and the opportunity was missed. The half-time score was Redruth 0 Old Colfeians 5.

The Reds seemed to step up a gear in the second half and five minutes in Ian Hambly scored a try. Soon after a drive from the lineout ended in Glenn Cooper scoring his first try giving the Reds the lead. Brown was unable to add the extras. Redruth spent much time in the Old Colfeians half but were unable to add to the score. The Old Colfeians came back into the game and gave the home supporters some concern when Dave Elwell kicked a penalty to bring the score to 10
