Redruth 28 Weston-Super-Mare 13

Posted under Match Reports by admin on Sunday 7 September 2003 at 12:00 am

Redruth started the competitive season well scoring their first try within 2 minutes by Glen Cooper. The game was exciting and the Reds had a number of scoring opportunities in the first half but had to be content with another try by Bede Brown after a fine breakout from the Redruth half. Scott Martin added a penalty for a half-time score of Redruth 13 Weston 0.

Weston opened the second half with a penalty by Martin Lambourne and this was followed with a try by fullback James Reid. Scott Martin then added another penalty to the Reduth score before Jonathan Wright barged his way over the line to score near the posts, Martin adding the extras. Near the end Weston scored a controversial try in Hell Fire corner but the Reds had the final say when Jason Pengilly darted over for a try in the final move of the game.

The pre season work showed in this first match with some good attacking moves and splendid defence, which promises much for the coming League season. New signings Ian Hambly, Scott Martin and Glen Cooper fitted in well with the side that finished last season so strongly.

Scott Martin was presented with the Reds
