Cinderford brought down a squad of 24 and the Reds chose to play a separate team in each half. The team in the first half took a while to settle down and Cinderford opened the scoring with a try from Richard Beezley this was followed by a penalty from Matt Skerritt. The Reds then started to play with more purpose Steve Edmonds crossed for a try converted by Steve Larkins, this was followed by a try foe Dave Barber again converted by Larkins. Skerritt scored another penalty for Cinderford and Liam Chapple’s try finished the half for the Reds.Half-time score Redruth 19 Cinderford 11.
The Redruth team for the second half seemed tighter in defence and showed good pace. James Lancaster scored the first try of the period after good work by Bede Brown and Craig Bonds, Bede Brown converting. Lewis Vinnecombe scored the next try. Craig Bonds scored his first try after Nick Edyvean came in off his wing and burst through at pace before passing. Brown adding the extras. Cindeford finished off their scoring with a penalty from Skerritt. Nathan Pedley scored a fine individual try up the stand side before Craig Bonds scored his second try Brown again converting. Final score Redruth 50 Cinderford 14.
The two sets of forwards competed well against a robust Cinderford pack. The emphasis being on team work, Matt Gray took some good lineout ball in the first half and Neal Corrin in the second half. The teams seemed hungry for work and look fitter for the start on the season than Redruth has looked for a long time. The selectors will have quite a headache picking out the first League team of the season. Next Saturday the friendly is Truro away.
