Redruth 19 – Westcombe Park 10

Posted under Match Reports by admin on Tuesday 26 February 2002 at 12:00 am

This was a well earned victory for Redruth who made full use of the wind and slope to score 19 points in the first half. Shane Kirman opened the scoring with a try early on converted by Steve Larkins. James Lancaster followed with a try backing up a good run down the left wing by Andy Hymans. Shortly after Tom Simcock took a quick penalty and the ball was moved along the line to Craig Bonds who scored a try, Steve Larkins converting.

Westcombe Park came more into the game in the second half and a penalty was scored by Derek Coates. Redruth defended well and although Westcombe Park looked dangerous on several occasions the pressure of the defence caused simple handling errors and opportunities were missed. Westcombe Park scored a try late on when Simon Hariss was driven over the line, Derek Coates converting. Redruth had produced a fine team performance in this excellent win over worthy opponants.

Redruth Man of the Match, selected by the sponsor Paul Harris of ‘Paul Harris & Co’, Accountants, was Shane Kirman.

Redruth Colts 3 – Bristol Shoguns Colts 36

Posted under Colts News by admin on Friday 8 February 2002 at 12:00 am

Redruth Colts put up a spirited performance against a Bristol side with to much fire power in the outsides. Redruth opened the scoring early on with a penalty by Martin Strick. The forwards competed well but when the ball reached the backs they were unable to make any headway against the Bristol defence. When Bristol had the ball the backs always looked dangerous. In the first half for Bristol wings Daniel Ajuwa and Shadrak Ajuwa scored tries both converted by Richard Wood, centre Joe Rogers scored at the end of the first half to take the score to Redruth 3 Bristol 19.

Joe Rogers was involved again early on in the second half to score a try converted again by Richard Wood, Sharak Ajuwa and Daniel Ajuwa added further tries. The Redruth side worked and tackled hard in the second half to restrict the Bristol scoring. Bristol looked a powerful side which should do well in the further stages of the competition

Redruth 24 – Blackheath 20

Posted under Match Reports by admin on Monday 4 February 2002 at 12:00 am

Both teams contributed to an entertaining game in very muddy conditions. Redruth recovered from the early set back of a Blackheath try scored by Peter Deck converted by Chris Trace. Sheldon Waetford scoring after the ball was released from a forward drive, Steve Larkins converting. James Lancaster put Redruth ahead with a fine pick up and drive through the Blackheath defence to score under the posts Steve Larkins again converting and also adding a penalty on 25 minutes to take the score to 17 – 7.

Early in the second half Chris Trace scored a penalty for Blackheath. Ten minutes later the Redruth pack drove Nick Croker over for a try converted by Steve Larkins. Blackheath however always looked dangerous especially on the wings and pressurised Redruth in the final ten minutes, scoring tries by Chris Trace on the wing and one for Alex Natera after a forward drive broke through the Redruth defence

Sadly, the Big Screen in the Main Bar of the Clubhouse remains out of commission following the fire for the time being. The Club wonders if anyone is able to offer/loan a reasonably sized set ( or two ) for use during the Six Nations period.

Please contact John Watson at the Club on 01209 215520 or David Thomas on 07944 633106 or email davidredruthrfc@aol.com.

Many thanks, it would be greatly appreciated.
